I'm still around!

It is spring break for the kids this week so I've been busy keeping the kids busy, yard work, housework etc. We actually made it to the ocean on Monday which is a 2 hour drive and got to enjoy a one-day summer temperature of 82 degrees! Of course it was Hampton, New Hampshire in April so the water was FREEZING.

So I haven't been working on drawings much but I squeezed in a little time today and worked on a piece for an upcoming group show with the Fineline Artists. The theme is windows and doors so I had to do one of my infamous hanging apples. It's almost finished. :)

Cup Of Grapes

I had to keep the grapes away from the family so I could do this one! I put all the groceries away and told them all not to eat the grapes until I used them for a drawing and somebody still snuck into them! Note to self: when I get my own studio, get myself a little fridge just for still-life supplies!

Cup of Java

This is just a little mini - 2.5" x 3.5" and is actually done from a photo in the wetcanvas image library. I had see it before and it was such a good set up I had to do it at least small.

Canteloupe

I've put the trash wip to the side for the moment. I'm planning on doing this image with my students on the Alaskan cruise I'm doing next month with Ann Kullberg and Anne De Mille Flood. Oh my did I say next month!

We will be working from photographs aboard the cruise as our resources will be limited and there will be up to 30 students. I put together this still-life for the cruise because I wanted something that went with what I have been doing and the brightly colored fruit against a neutral background fit the bill. I backlit the canteloupe using just my window light completely inspired by Cecile Baird's work. The soft folds on the fabric as well as the ambient lighting on it creates a nice contrast without too many elements to learn in a short amount of time with the students.

Show in Peterborough, NH until 4/29

I should have posted this before but there still are a couple of weeks left. Some works have been sold but I believe they will stay hanging until the end of the show.
