WINE-O

I don't know if anyone would really want a picture of a cheap bottle of wine in the bag it came in from the grocery store - which is why I had this concept a long time ago and am just doing it now. I really wanted to do more paper and I thought this would look fab even if the meaning might be - wino!

So this is how much of it I finished today in between retrieving drinks and food for 4 kids along with occasionally answering the question "why" to my little neighbor across the street while she watched me draw. Then there were the couple of hours outside with the water slide - which of course I did go downtoo. I couldn't help it - they looked like they were having so much fun and it was hot! This is the one we have - the Bonzai - you can see why I couldn't resist!

Are you ready for digital entries?

The art world is changing! It is getting switched over to digital and not with a slow transition but all of a sudden show entries are switching completely over to digital from slides. I have to say as everything is getting changed over to digital entries I'm not liking the transition! I'm used to dropping off my artwork at the photographers and getting back beautiful, correct images that he has diligently taped off with metallic tape to get the perfect crop.

I just got an entry together for a show that requires digital entry but doesn't give any guidelines as to how big etc the file should be except for "good enough quality for printing purposes." Well that could mean a lot of things! Then there's the image. Even with a professional taking the digital photos for me, the colors are just off. The pieces I had photographed have a lot of red in them which seems to be the hardest to photograph correctly with a digital camera. So I have to correct it in photoshop and make a new cd with the image on it. Of course my cd burner is broken so I have to email the huge image to myself, retrieve my email on my husband's computer and burn the cd on his laptop.

In the end I wish I could just use the old system which makes me wonder how people that aren't used to computers/graphics programs are doing with this drastic change? My friend Gordon Leverton gave me this link on digital entries that I think is helpful - or just a good read. http://bermangraphics.com/galleryartshows.htm

I'm busy working on my new kit. I've added a little - very little sneak peak at what it will look like. :-)

& then here's the promised pics from the sand sculpture competition! Here's the link to Greg Grady's sand sculptures - the man who is responsible for the festival in Hampton Beach NH. They were still working on the sculptures when we were there so we didn't see them finished. You can tell she just started putting the face on (or removing sand really) that mermaid.

I seriously think I enjoyed it all more than the kids. I'm just in awe at what they can do with a pile of dirt - especially since I never really excelled in the 3-D art department. I'll stick to colored pencils thank you very much!

Day at the Beach

Well yesterday I worked longer than usual because I knew I would be playing all day today. I did a great deal on that kit I said I was making - I just have to put together the words for the instructions but the artwork steps are finished and scanned in. Then I framed all the work I was getting together for Monadnock Fine Art Gallery. They are having an opening celebration next Friday so I am happy to say I got my things in there.

So nothing new to show you all but I will brag about our day at the beach today. I took the kids to Hampton Beach to see the sand sculpting competition and my 8 year old got to have a lesson with one of the sculptors. All I got to do was watch but I did get to feel the sand that they use which is very interesting. If you all ask I may show you the photos of the competition! I'm too knackered to do it tonight. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive each way so this is all I'm up for tonight. :-)

a little dancer

Well the woman wasn't little - that's just the size of the drawing! It's a little miniature - 2.5" x 3.5" aceo. This is a woman dancing at a luau I went to last winter in Hawaii. It was a night show and they had red lights on during this very slow and sultry dance. She was the love dancer on stage and wore white flowers on her head and a white sexy dress. Check out my ebay auctions if you are interested in bidding on it.

I am about to start a new kit which will take me a bit longer than I usually spend on a drawing! So I'll let you all see it as soon as I can.

Tommorrow I am taking my kids to the beach though - Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. Its their annual sand sculpture contest and tommorrow and today they are giving sand sculpture lessons from the master sand sculptors! I'm so excited! I got my 8 year old daughter a one hour lesson and I'm terribly jealous! Here's some of the pictures from last year's contest.
