more red.

I can't tell you how frustrated I am at how this thing photographs. What is it with reds? I've made a beautiful subtle red here - not the neon glowing one my camera displays! Oh well... you'll have to take my word that this looks so much better in person. I decided to not try and fix the levels in photoshop and just show you the weird light filled pics the way the camera spit them out. Well actually I tried several ways to fix it and gave up. :(

I've got some steps there for you too.

Red

RED!

Red is actually my personal favorite color in paintings. I didn't know this until I realized almost every painting I've bought has prominant red in the composition.

Just the beginnings of this one. I did a little underpainting on the teapot. Some dark green under the shaded parts and some light peach and orange under the lightest to medium parts. Then I went over it with the appropriate red for that area: dk red over the shaded and scarlet over most of the rest.

Blue # 3

This one is 11 x 14" so a bit smaller than the other 2. I'm going to take a little break from the blue backgrounds on the next one. Partially because I am low on blue pencils again! Then there's the conspiracy that two galleries around here are having color themed shows: "Red" and the other "Green." Don't they know I'm doing my "Blue" period?

Blue Too

I am still fiddling with this, but just little bits like glazing complements and adjusting some values. If there is something you'd like to mention, go for it.

I made a mistake and transfered my line drawing too far over to the right - so this is how I am going to crop it - and now I'll have to buy a custom frame.

I thought I would also show you how I am setting up these still-lifes with a blue background. Luckily Target sells wrapping paper in plain colors. I just taped it up on the wall and draped it down the wall and over the table, then let the roll sit on the floor in front of the table. The result is a seamless blue.

Blue pencils are in!

OK I finally got to fill out the rest of the blue. So here it is & with it just resting in the frame.
