A work in Progress!

More experimenting with watercolor pencils.

This is 11 x 14" overall and so far I've put 6 nonstop hours into it. I'm not even half way through yet.

  1. This is going to be a good one! The background is wonderful.

Six hours and not half done? Is that bad? Sounds pretty quick to me.

  2. This is looking great- especially the vase and the luminescence of the grapes. I wish I could get inside your head to see how you know what colors will work. I really admire the way you handle all of the whites in your pieces.

  3. This is lovely. The light and reflections are very well done ... as usual. :)

  4. If you don't mind me asking, did you use the wc pencils on the background as well?

Again, another excellent piece Nicole, and thanks so much for showing it as a WIP!

  5. As with most of your work superlatives are found wanting and both metaphor and simile abandon me. As for the work where this does not happen I go with I do not yet see.

The top grapes look ready to eaten and delicious. Bottom ones not so much. Have to wait for them to get ripe I suppose.

I like seeing the steps. Kinda like the time lapse watching a flower grow. I like the steps you picked. I have seen drawing done with a speeded up video and although cool the first few times I saw them, for me there is not a sense of evolution. More of a performance.

The reflection of color on the glass are awesome as is the glass.

I see three ages, the background being older, the glass in between and the grapes right now. Looking forward to seeing the ages when it is done.

I like how the stem is so in the right place.

My arm is tired just looking at the steps.

    Thank you

  6. Thanks Cindy, Deborah, Jo, Rita and Michael!

Jo I used everything on that darn background! I actually used Neocolor II's for the first step in the background and layered colored pencil and watercolor pencil on top. I actually was fiddling too much with that thing!

Haha Michael! It will be done soon!

  7. This is really beautiful. You must have an endless supply of vases and cups. I especially love the background. Thank you for showing the steps. It really helps to see how you arrive at things. In my world six hours is a short amount of time.
