Pear Halves

Here it is finished. Pear Halves, 8" x 10" Luminance & Coloursofts on Grey Pastelbord

I say finished but I really really want to try using a heat gun on it. I saw an article about this technique in Ann Kullberg's e-zine and I think it might just work on the Pastelbord to help fill in the dots... or it may make a huge mess. The point would be for the heat gun to heat up the wax based pencil and let them melt just a bit. Hmmmmm you may see this again or I may chicken out!

& I have to show off my new little drafting table (below) that I got for $20 at the Creative Encounter's Frame Shop basement sale! Yay! (Love that place and all the women who work there!). Its short so I've gotten an exercise ball for a chair... which certainly gave me some exercise blowing it up with the little hand pump that came with it. The hand pump is staying in the studio - it works great for clearing the shavings off my work!

  3. Nicole, I used a heating gun on my clay board piece from hades entitled, 'Hali'. It works to a certain degree. But I've found that once you gloss over an area with the gun, it is very difficult to redraw on that area if need be. The wax gets 'shiny'. I resorted to using watercolor pencils to correct the patterns made by the gun. It's interesting how the gun can actually manipulate the wax in varied directions. You can't use the gun too close to the board. And don't stay on one area for a concentrated amount of time. I personally wouldn't use the gun on a regular basis but it can be interesting. I used mine to accentuate the flow of the water pattern in my work. Good luck.

  4. P.S. I love the piece and your new drafting table looks almost like mine (low..lol). I love working on gray board too. It's my fav color for warmth!

  7. Lovely piece! The unbroken softness you have all over, irrespective of the types of objects, sets a calm mood. The compositional structure is, as I notice in all your work, just magnificent! I can't get over how robust your work is... pure visual pleasure!

  8. Wanted to add that this piece (Pear Halves) expresses Nicole's amazing compositional sense of form and space as perhaps seen most dramatically in this piece. Here a pear reaches into open space in a way similar to the girl's arm reaching into open space. The open space and form are unified in one holistic beatific expression. ~Ian

  9. I haven't tried the gun yet!! I will though! I need to bring it in to the studio. I'll probably try it on a wip instead of a finished piece after readng your comments though!

    Thanks you Ian!!! :-)
