Here it is finished. Below are some close-ups that you can click on to see larger. Now the difficult task of titles! I think its between "Testing Boundaries" and "Hide and Seek."
& I started this one today... I plan on submitting both to CPSA at the end of the month if this 2nd one turns out ok.
EDIT: It is Thursday and my little one (the one in the picure actually) has a stomach bug, so 'till Tuesday then...
I like "Testing Boundaries." Works well with the string being taut, symbolism wise, and the stage of life the subject would be at. Beautiful piece of work (even better close up!) and the second is off to a great start.
ReplyDeleteStunning, Nicole!! Love "Testing Boundaries" Especially for this age ;^) Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see you posting again.
Hi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI like 'testing boundaries' too. Your second portrait is looking very good already, I even think it's going to be better than the first one (maybe because of the higher contrast that can be seen so far...)
Saludos,
Carolina
Nicole, I love them both but the second one is my favorite. I love the hand position on this one and can't wait to see it when the string is added. P.S. I remember you tried pastel pencils some time ago and wondered what your opinion of them was?
ReplyDeleteThanks guys!
ReplyDeleteI liked the pastel pencils and like my results but you seem to need way way more colors of them than colored pencils as they do not mix to create new colors the way colored pencils do. So if I wanted to do that I'd need to invest a lot of money.
Kudos on a very unique portrait! I know you work quickly but gosh that dark background would have done me in. :-) Good luck with number two!
ReplyDeleteTesting the Boundaries .. this is amazing as always. Hope the little one feels better by now!
ReplyDeleteFound you through James Gurney's blog and really enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to use pastels more and more and seeing you work through ideas helps me too. Thanks! If you don't mind me asking, what type of board/canvas are you using?
I agree with a lot of the comments, the second piece shows more of the face and is the stronger of the two but the second gets hoisted up by the first. They're stronger together and that's great!
nicole,
ReplyDeleteanything be the title...
