new Commission and pics from show with Gary Ruuska

The autumn commission is put on hold until next week, so I started another commission - this one a portrait/still-life. All I have finished is a transferred line drawing. It really is a still-life that borders on tromp l'oiel. In it are two school portraits from the 70's and a bunch of kid's craft stuff. There are a few objects thrown in that the people depicted in the photographs liked at that age. Wow, it looks kind of weird at this stage... :-)

This piece is both fun and scary to make. I really dislike doing teeny portraits and this one has 2 small ones in it. I have nothing against small portraits - its just that one small milimeter of a mistake can change the likeness. It is much easier to do something around life-size.

& I owe you all some photographsfrom my show with Gary Ruuskain Jaffrey,NH! His work are the wonderful still-lifes and architecture pieces below. He also has gorgeous botanicals in the show, so this is just a sampling from theshow. My work, of course, are the portraits... in the show I have 14 portraits including my Zen piece (which isn't in these photos).

Jaffrey Civic Center Show and Fall Foliage Art Studio Tour

In addition to my current show of still-lifes at the Monadnock Art Gallery, I have two more events coming up.

On Friday October 9th (yep this Friday) from 5-7 pm is the opening
reception for my joint show with artist Gary Ruuska called "Point of Realism." I have all my portraits in this show... a few have never left the studio and all of them have never been shown together before. Its a show long in the making but its finally here! Gary has still-lifes and amazing architectural pieces in the show.

here is the official press release from the civic center:

Nicole Caulfield and Gary Ruuska defy any preconceptions of what you ever thought the abilities of colored pencil can be. The images they create with their medium will have you appreciate not only their talent, their choices of subject matter, their vision, their patience, but their dedication to their art. A two-person art exhibit, “Point of Realism”, will begin with an opening on Friday, October 9 from 5-7 pm and runs until Saturday, November 7 at the Jaffrey Civic Center in the 1st floor Auditorium Gallery.

There are images of florals which exude photo-realism, portraits which are not only friendly, but invite you to examine the personalities of the people who have posed. The exhibit will touch you on many levels, and let you go home
feeling enriched.

The Civic Center is located at 40 Main Street, Jaffrey, New Hampshire (next to Library, parking in rear.) Hours at the Center are: Tues 10-6/ Wed-Fri 1-5/ Sat 10-2.Admission is free. For further information call 603-532-6527

October 10th - 11th I am participating in the Fall Foliage Art Studio Tour from 10 am - 5 pm both days. I won't have much in my studio honestly with my two other shows going at the same time, but if you want to come by and see my studio and chat, come on by.
