My drawing of my daughter Katie (a.k.a. Defiance) was accepted in the publication "Strokes of Genius 2: The Best of Drawing Light and Shadow" by Northlight books due to come out in October 2009.
This was special news because it was a portrait of my daughter that will be published. :) I wasn't going to even enter this competition, but my friend Ranjini, at the last moment, said I needed to send this portrait in. So I sent it in, and only this image in and it made it! Thanks again Ranjini for the push!
The drawing is done with colored pencil on Fisher 400 paper. The first piece I tried on Tim Fisher's paper, which I now am in love with. The paper, not Tim, btw.
Now I have to have it professionally photographed. The call asks for 4x5" transparencies or good digital images. Does anyone have any info about transparencies - if their better etc?

A 4x5 transparency is better- since they can be reproduced well especially if you are printing them for books. It might be a bit pricey than a good quality digital but I think its worth it!
Trannies are great but the publisher will still have to scan in the tranny on their side with a high quality tranny scanner. I don't know how large the drawing is but you can also get it scanned full size at 300dpi ("Repro Houses" have scanners that can scan larger than A3). What's great about having it scanned is that you can compare the CMYK-values with the drawing to check that the colour is 100% accurate (most of these HQ scanners are calibrated to perfection) and you don't loose any detail! Hope this helps.

(I agree that a slide would be better. It's rather like the difference between seeing the image on a brightly lit monitor and just a flat printout,better for publication purposes too)
