Pansies, Oranges and Chrome 8" x 18" Available at the Monadnock Fine Art Gallery So I did an all-dayer. Not to be confused with an all-nighter. Basically I worked on this yesterday from 9 am until 11:30 pm with the occasional break. Its actually the way I like to work. It drives me nuts to get into a zone on a piece only to have to take a long break from it. I think my work turns out better too when I don't stop and start again.
On the technical front, this is 8" x 18" on Pastelbord using mostly Derwent Coloursoft pencils and some Luminance. I have noticed that my yellows tend to fade when I varnish my pieces so I tried a theory I had to preserve the colors on this one. Basically, as the very last layer I went over everything with a Prismacolor colorless wax blender thinking the extra wax would protect the pencil underneath. I think it worked because none of my yellows changed when I varnished it!

Beautiful absolutely beautiful.
The colorless wax over everything makes sense, the wax can not be dissolved/diluted in the varnish and the pigment in the yellow can. Taking a guess it is a solvent in the varnish which evaporates after the varnish is applied that can dissolve/dilute the pigment. Good eye in seeing the color change. Good idea to solve it.
What does the varnishing process involve? Is it a spray? If so, what did you use. Sorry if I missed this info in a previous post.

Thats how i like to work as well, i find if i stop i loose momentum and find it hard to get back into the zone.

This is my first comment on your art journal. When I look at your paintings I actually have to stop and catch my breath. It is a physical feeling I get, yet very emotional too. Your colors are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your beauty with us.

Exactly Michael - it has solvent in it. I'm so happy about the wax protecting the colors!
Scott what I do is spray fist with Lascaux fixative and then spray with Kamar varnish. :-)Then I frame them without glass. My work on paper obviously doesn't get varnished though.
